Thoughts on Miss California

There has been a lot of news lately about the Miss USA pageant, and Carrie Prejean. She is the girl who answered truthfully about what she believed during the pageant, in favor of Marriage between a man and a woman.
She believes in the sanctity of marriage, so do I.
What was eye-opening to me is how this world reacts to someone who stands up for their Christian beliefs. The attack on this girl is nothing short of awful, from the person who asked her the question calling her vicious names and insults, to the media digging up whatever they can on her to destroy her image. I think this is a clarion call to all Christians, that this is how the world reacts to the message of Christ. Sure she obviously made some bad choices in her life, and a lot of people will dismiss & ridicule her for that, but Christianity is about second chances, mercy and forgiveness. Even on the cross before he was about to die, after living a life of evil, a thief gave his heart to Jesus, and is now in Heaven.
Our past is not about who we are, but it is who we were. We learn from those mistakes and hopefully they help to make us a better person. Who we are and will be depends on the choices we make now and will make. Carrie Prejean chose to stand up for what she believed in front of millions of people, and has chosen to continue to do so, even in the face of ridicule and slander. For that, I applaud her.
I think we should all realize that the path and race that Christ set before us is not an easy one, we will be ridiculed and we will be slandered. That being said, the Holy Spirit will give us strength to overcome, and we will also be blessed and have the promise that God offered through His Son.
“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.”
1 Peter 4:12-16
